January: Daisy

daisy First off, I'd like to thank all the Pups and Peeps at NoBonz!  I mean that, because without you I would not be here - literally.  My Mom and Dad can tell this is my home away from home, so they don't bother with any place else.  I'm a "rescue" from the Oregon Humane Society, but if you asked my parents they'd say it was I that rescued them.  My sister Roxy's time had come , and both my parents were a little lost.  Something was missing, and that something was me!  I had just come from Klamath Falls as part of the Second Chance program the previous day, so I was ready and waiting to be loved.  And loved I am.   I spend most days hanging out with my Dad going on walks and playing at the dog park at Mt. Tabor, or jumping in puddles and running free at Thousand Acres park.   He also takes me to work with him when he can, and I like to greet the customers in my own way.   When my Mommy gets home from work she's sure to bring me toys and treats for me to chew and munch on.  De-stuffing the stuffed is a favorite past time of mine.

I love the holiday's because I get to see all my furry cousins and can usually get a bite or two (or three) off my Dad's plate. Let's just say, he's a soft touch.   At night I snuggle with Mom and Dad on the bed, and get ready to do it all over again.    When I can't be with Mom and Dad, they bring me to No Bonz.  The staff are very sweet to me, and Jake is a righteous brother.  They've made me feel loved and welcome and I always look forward to hanging with all the regular pooches and new comers alike.  I'm surrounded by my friends, both two and four legged.  I'm fortunate that I have many "happy places" in my life, and this is one of them.

Warm Hugz n' Belly Rubs,

Daisy

December: Roady

RoadyI am super excited to be Dog of the Month!  I am a standard poodle/border collie mix.  I've heard my Mom comment that although an unusual mix up it sure created a super smart lovable dog :-) I have been coming to NoBonz since I was six months old and now I am 6 years old.  NoBonz has been there for me and my family through lots of changes and some hard times.  No matter what it's always a happy day for me when I get to go.  Even after all these years I still get excited when Mom and Dad tell me it's a school day and I start barking when we get close to the big red tent. Next to school days I love balls, ok maybe even more.  My folks say obsessed instead of love and warn visitors not to throw the ball the first time or I will bug them the rest of the day.  I have created different types of games with balls depending on the ball and where we are.  I would be happy to teach them to you. I love to go in the car.  I'm not picky about where we go as long as I am included I am happy to jump in the back and wait to find out where we end up.  I could be the Sandy River Delta - it's a special place for people and dogs.  If we don't go to the Delta we might head up the gorge to play in the river at Stevenson or go to the beach.    We all get tired then come home and I sit in my chair by the window waiting for my next school day.

November: Zula

My name is Zula Yakone, I’m a 7th month old alaskan malamute and I’m so pumped to be the No Bonz dog of the month for November. Zula means brilliant which my humans expect me to be after being the first in my litter to have open eyes and talking first. Yakone is an Inuit word paying homage to my breed’s ancestral roots and means red aurora, a reference to my beautiful fur coloring. I was born in Los Angeles but when I was eight weeks old I found myself making the long road trip to my new home in Portland. Back then I fit perfectly in a person’s lap, not so much anymore.

I love Portland with all my puppy heart. I love all the other dogs I see every time I go out for a walk and I love all of the friendly people that want to pet me. My favorite place in the entire world though is the Sandy River Delta. I get to run free there every Sunday morning until I have to be carried back to the car. I’ve become best friends with a HUGE great dane puppy, Xena, that I get to chase and jump on every week at the delta. Soon, I may be spending my Sunday’s elsewhere though as I am anxiously awaiting winter; I cannot wait until I finally get to experience snow for the first time! If the movie Frozen has taught me anything, there’s so much fun to be had in the snow.

I may be very selective in my decisions to listen or not but if you have a carrot in your hand, I will do anything you ask, carrots are so delicious.

No Bonz has quickly become another of my favorite places. Whenever I sense that I am close, I get very antsy and excited. As soon as the car door opens I sprint in and announce my presence and excitement with endless roo’s, I don’t even say goodbye to my humans, they’ll survive.

September: Indy

Indy is an 9 month old Pit bull that was rescued from a Southern California shelter where she didn’t have the best start in life. She is deaf, and was  likely attacked by other dogs and an entire hive of bees, leaving scars all over her body as a reminder. Despite this rough start, Indy is super friendly with people and dogs, and pretty much loves everyone she meets and makes everyone fall in love with her because she is so sweet and cuddly.  When not playing with her friends at No Bonz about it, Indy loves to bug her older  sisters, who are 11 and 12 year old pit bull mixes...who don't always appreciate Indy's constant playfulness!  We are currently in obedience training and learning hand signals so that Indy can be even more perfect than she already is!!
